BEST KNOWN FOR HIS WATER PAINTERLY GOUACHE AND INK WORKS, BRIAN WILLMONT FOLDS HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY AND HIS OWN RICH IMAGINATION INTO HIS PAINTINGS.
TWO OF THE ARTWORKS USED IN SS16 ALL EXISTENCE, ‘GAZE’ AND ‘SHIFT’ ARE TAKEN FROM A SERIES OF PAINTINGS THAT JUXTAPOSE THE BEAUTY OF GRECO-ROMAN SCULPTURE WITH THE VISAGES OF COWBOYS AND INDIANS THAT PUSH AT THE FUTURE BY REINVENTING THE PAST.

ANOTHER WORK, ‘UNTITLED’ 2013, IS TAKEN FROM A SERIES OF WORKS COLLECTIVELY ENTITLED DARK LIGHT, THAT HAVE BEEN RENDERED IN LINE AFTER LINE OF METICULOUSLY RULED BALLPOINT PEN. THIS SERIES DEPICTS A CHILLINGLY ACCURATE VISION OF THE ACCOMPANYING QUOTE FROM ‘THE ROAD’ BY CORMAC MCCARTHY, DESCRIBING THE IMPLACABLE DARKNESS AND THE ‘CRUSHING BLACK VACUUM OF THE UNIVERSE’.

HIS ART GOES ABOUT BUILDING THE NEW AMERICAN FOLKTALE WITH TECHNICOLOR PAINTINGS THAT ARE TARNISHED WITH AMERICAN HISTORY, PRE-RENAISSANCE AND PERSIAN MINIATURE PAINTING, WORSHIP, DREAMSCAPES, BLACKLIGHT POSTERS AND THE FANTASTIC.

WILLMONT RECEIVED HIS B.F.A. FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS COLLEGE OF ART WITH A HIGH DISTINCTION MAJORING IN PRINT MAKING. HE HAS HAD SOLO EXHIBITIONS AT AVIARY GALLERY IN BOSTON, RECEIVER GALLERY IN SAN FRANCISCO, SPACE 1026 IN PHILADELPHIA, LAMONTAGNE GALLERY IN BOSTON, AND THE BOSTON CENTER FOR THE ARTS
